Transatlantic Business Dialogue (TABD) Why the Trans-Atlantic economic relationship is so important:Transatlantic economic ties account for a third of global trade and 20 per cent of the world’s foreign direct investment. Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD) The Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD) is the forum of the major consumer organizations in the United States and the European Union, it works on strategies to revitalize the transatlantic economic partnership (TEP). On the occasion of the 2005 U.S.-EU Summit, TACD recommended a new open process. TACD endorses "a process that should encompass two key principles. It should be a process where activities geared toward regulatory cooperation are nominated and discussed in a democratic and accountable fashion with a balanced group of stakeholders. It should also be a process with clear avenues for public input and transparent methods of decision-making and record-keeping. It urged to allow opportunities for a balanced group of stakeholders and technical experts to obtain observer status so that they may listen to and participate in substantive discussions. Such a system, by including stakeholders as observers, leads to both broader public acceptance of agreements and better outcomes to discussions." Read the EU-US Summit Statement , 2005 Transatlantic Legislator's Dialogue (TLD) Taking the existing interparliamentary relationship as its basis, the TLD aims to strengthen and enhance the level of political discourse between European and American legislators. It will do so against the background of the numerous other contacts that have resulted in a significantly closer EU-US relationship at a variety of levels. These include, namely, the bi-annual EU-US Summit meetings established by the Transatlantic Declaration of 1990, the Transatlantic Dialogues (Business, Consumers, Environment, and Labour) and other initiatives. The TLD constitutes the formal response of the European Parliament and the US Congress to the commitment in the New Transatlantic Agenda (NTA) of 1995, to enhanced parliamentary ties between the European Union and the United States. In practical terms the TLD includes, the bi-annual meetings of the European Parliament and the US Congress delegations and a series of teleconferences, organised on specific topics of mutual concern, with a view to fostering an ongoing and uninterrupted dialogue.
Both the European Parliament and the US Congress have established a Steering Committee to co-ordinate TLD activities. The Steering Committees also maintains contacts with the members of the Senior Level Group (SLG), which is composed of high-ranking officials from the European Commission, the EU Presidency and the US Administration.
Transatlantic Small Business Initiative (TASBI) Transatlantic Environmental Dialogue (TAED) Congressional EU Caucus The Transatlantic Biosecurity Network The Transatlantic Biosecurity Network is a group of medical, public health, and national security experts from North America and Europe who have been meeting since early 2002. Members have provided insight on key issues that the transatlantic community would face in the event of a bioterrorist attack. Members act in a personal capacity and not as official representatives of their nations or employers. |
