High-level contacts The EU-US Summits
The EU-US Summits bring together the President of the United States, the President of the European Commission, the Head of State or Government of the EU Member State holding the EU Presidency and the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the Council of the EU. The EU-US Presidential Summits came into being as a result of the November 1990 Transatlantic Declaration, which formalized for the first time the United States’ contacts with what was then called the European Community. The last summit took place on April 30, 2007 and featured the signing of the Open Skies agreement and of a framework setting up the Transatlantic Economic Council.
